Kids Wedding Reception Activities

Children are not excluded by many brides from their wedding. On the other hand they are welcomed as members of the wedding party and guests.





Presence of children poses a number of problems. They cannot be left to their own devices. We cannot hope that they will behave properly and don’t get in the way. We do not expect a room with child care where they can be kept and looked after. The best answer is a simple mixture of both with some built in fun.

First and foremost consider the age of children if invited to the wedding. Babies will remain with their parents for a number of reasons and it is not possible to have all the kids in another room. Granting that children are toddler up to 12 years, you can provide a separate room with child care and offer them a number of activities.

Children in a separate room at the reception can have a coloring table, a TV with suitable movie, and some board games. There are quite sufficient for the duration of the wedding reception. For toddlers five in number one adult should be present. For elder children it should be one adult for every 10 children. By themselves the kids will not involve themselves in the activities. It is the responsibility of the children provides to get the children involved in the activities by doing them himself and set an example.

At the reception, you can devise a following table at the back of the reception hall with lots of papers, coloring books, markers and crayons. No paints are allowed for obvious reasons and moms will be happy if only washable markers and crayons are supplied.

The art table can be more than just coloring however with a large bag of pipe cleaners. Children can engage and amuse themselves for long making animals and odd figures. Better to have 20 or more pipe cleaners for every child as they can use it up quickly. Consider “clean clay” the new products that don’t stick to anything and don’t leave any trace on the furniture. Children can create a variety of figures, forms and faces with a few different colors.

There is, formal planning by brides for the small guests. Paid entertainment is arranged for them in a separate room or at the back of the reception room or hall if it is large and the guest list big. A clown or a balloon artist can be hired and some one can braid the children’s hair or provide temporary tattoos. A children’s musician can also come to entertain the kids. Sky is the limit for options.

Sans any plan for children, when the kids expect entertainment, you should do something to satisfy them. You can have a “child only” dance where children only can come to the dance floor. This will not only be cute but entertaining to watch. Not only that, the grand parents will flower in to graceful smiles seeing the dance of their grand children.
