Buffet Table Activities

Most wedding receptions are characterized by a buffet style meal where guests will in a long queue and those at the food table decide if they want Italian or ranch dressing on the salad.

Certain unusual methods have to be adopted to make people go for food faster. There are a number of options which can be tried to create fun and make people eat quickly and with more satisfaction.

A few fun options are given below:
In the popular option the tables are numbered and the MC or DJ calls numbers at different intervals. The people at the numbered table find the buffet and begin the feast. Numbers can be in a variety of locations, for example in the flower arrangement on the table.

In case some brides do not like this arrangement of number as this resembles a convention, the numbers can be under the flower arrangements or under the chairs. Write a small number some where on a card for people to know where they are sitting at. The florist can play around with the table floral arrangements. If the floored arrangement has a dozen flowers, the florist can add one extra flower or table one, two extra flowers for table two and so on. The guests will thus know which number table they are based on and how many extra flowers they have in their arrangement.

This flower method will be very costly and prohibitive if there are plenty of guests and many tables.

If you are not thrilled at this number system and feel there is no uniqueness in the method other fun options are always at your disposal. Each table can have a color and the MC or DJ will call the color. Depending on the number of tables in the reception you can match the table clothes with the color of the tables. Thus you can have white, pink, lavender, beige and yellow table cloths. When the colors of their table cloths are called the guests at that table simply move to the buffet table for their feast.

A little more fun is provided for the guests to move easily to the buffet table. This involves placing a buzzer on each table or a bell small in size. It should be enough to buzz or ring when needed. The MC or DJ will ask some trivial question or a question about the bride and groom. The tables buzz in or ring with answers. The guests at the table with the first correct buzzed answer proudly move to the buffet table. The process is repeated till all are finally on their way to taste the wedding feast.

This trivial method is a special fun way to help guests know one another since they have to work together to arrive at the answer. If the guests are hungry you can have their muffled grooms and signs of restlessness. Even when there are complaints, this method is a crow pleasure because it is fun and engages almost all the people.

The next option of fun can create a bit of jealousy in others. When they get the place card from the table or from the seating chart, you can put a number on it. But not one at the same table will have the same number. You may choose to have ten people out of 100 guests at the buffet table at a time and each person would be assigned a number 1 through ten. Similarly the MC or DJ will call a number and those numbers will go for the buffet table. But the guests at each table will not get the food at the same time.

This staggered feeding can be fun or nuisance depending on how it solves the problem of half the room being finished with the meal while waiting for the “later’ “table” to finish theirs before the beginning of the festivities. A few guests would have finished their feast while others at the table have not yet.
